Jeffrey Odham for Mayor

Jeffrey Odham was elected to serve as Alderman of the Sixth Ward in November of 2013. Jeffrey is the son of B.T. and Joan Odham and a lifelong resident of New Bern.  He married New Bern native Jeannie Haye Odham in June 2002. They have one son, Gavin Jeffrey.

Alderman Odham is a graduate of both New Bern High School & Craven Community College, where he earned an Associate of Applied Science in Business Administration - Marketing & Retailing.  Alderman Odham joined Glidden Paint Company in 1997 where he has spent his entire professional career (Glidden is now part of PPG Industries).  Throughout his tenure, Jeffrey has held numerous positions from Sales Representative to Regional Business Manager.  In 2002, Jeffrey & his wife became local entrepreneurs when they started a tanning salon known as Sunless Expressions, LLC.

Alderman Odham ran his campaign based on the platform of bringing financial accountability and commercial growth to New Bern.  He was quoted as saying, "I will bring a common sense, business-minded approach to City Hall.  It's time for elected officials to look past the next election cycle and do what is right for the long-term health of New Bern."

During Wednesday’s ribbon cutting ceremony, Coke Mann, a partner with Columbia Development Group, described the new store as a “best in class premium grocer.” He also thanked New Bern Mayor Dana Outlaw and Ward 6 Alderman Jeffrey Odham for their work in bringing Harris Teeter to New Bern.

“New Bern’s leadership is a valuable asset to this development and we’re grateful to everyone here,“ said Mann. “If it wasn’t for them none of this would have been possible.”

Consistency and communication is my trademark. I pride myself on being accessible and transparent whether it be with my constituents, employees or customers.

How do you volunteer your time in the community?

The position of alderman is paid, however the compensation is more commensurate with a service rather than a job. I have participated in events such as Paint Your Heart Out, Boys & Girls Club, East Carolina Food Bank and serve on several boards and committees that impact our community.

Who has helped you achieve success in your life and career?

My dad has always been my role model. He always gave selflessly to provide for our family. He taught me that your reputation and your name is something that no one can take away. All my life, he has always been there to help whether it’s advice or helping with a project.

What goal would you like to accomplish before turning 40?

Too often I see folks caught up in setting goals to make a certain salary, or hold a particular position. I’ve never been one to set goals. I realize that may not be the norm, but in respect of this question, my “goal” has always been to give everything you’ve got, every single day. If you do that, you’ll have no regrets.
